Daily Scripture
“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
1 Peter 1:6-9
Daily Devotion
In the beginning of chapter 1, Peter talks about being born again and what Christ did for us. Peter starts verse 6 by saying “rejoice,” which means to have joy or delight in the Lord. Peter is quick to express that there will be trials in our relationship with God. This means that as born again believers, we should expect trials and hardship. Nevertheless, there is a purpose and reason that we go through these trials. James 1:2-4 says, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” I believe God allows us to go through trials to strengthen our faith and gain wisdom. Peter goes on in verse 8 to say that even though we don’t see Him, we should rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says “For we live by Faith not by sight.” Then Peter says in verse 9 that the outcome of your faith is the salvation of your souls. Overall, we need to remember that when we experience trials, that it is temporary, that it has a purpose, and that it draws us closer to King Jesus.
