Walk In The Light

Daily Scripture

“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

1 John 1:5-7

Daily Devotion

God is light. Think about that for a moment. If God is light, then darkness (the devil and sin) has to flee from Him. Just as dark is extinguished when you turn on a light in a room, so evil cannot exist in God’s presence.

Which takes us back to John’s point: we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness. Satan’s ultimate goal is not to get us to sin, but to use sin to take us away from the Lord. Sin naturally makes people want to hide from God, just think about Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. When we have hidden sin in our lives, we are afraid of stepping into God’s light and having to confess, or we feel ashamed and unworthy, so we distance ourselves from Him. However, if we let any sin linger in our hearts and keep us in the dark, we are giving Satan the victory. It’s so much better and more freeing to let Jesus’ sacrifice cleanse us of all sin and to live our lives in God’s light.

So, ask God today to reveal to you the areas of your life that you’ve kept in the dark. Ask Him to help you turn away from any sin and walk in the light of Jesus.
