Daily Scripture
“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:21-23
Daily Devotion
When I was asked to comment on a Belmont Daily Reading and I saw the verse, I felt God would really want me to say yes. In the recent past, this has become a verse that has a deeper meaning for me. My family loves being together and we have worked hard to plan for those times. When my husband died, I remember we talked about how our times together would now be different. This verse has helped me as we have found our new normal. Many changes have taken place in my life — even a move to Calhoun. God’s mercies are new every morning. This is illustrated in the hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness”. We sing ‘morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me’. We sang this at my husband’s funeral knowing God is faithful and we could depend on that promise. We all have trials and sufferings and God wants to help us through those times. We can wake up each morning and be comforted and have a peace. In Lamentations 3, it tells us that God’s compassion never fails and His mercies are new every morning—-BECAUSE of God’s great love for us.
