Daily Scripture
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
John 10:10
Daily Devotion
Satan is a real and active force in the world, and he wants to steal our purpose and kill the very thing we were created for. Sometimes, I think we forget that our battle is not against flesh and blood but instead against spiritual forces of evil. The devil is after believers. He rejoices when we drift from the Lord. He seeks to plant worry, doubt, hate, jealousy, bitterness, etc. He makes it his purpose to cause chaos and confusion. But this is not where this verse ends! Jesus said that He has come that we may have life and have it abundantly. The Greek word for abundance is ‘perissos’ which essentially means surplus or excess. Despite what we may think, the abundant life does not mean an easy, comfortable life. It doesn’t not mean a life free from pain, suffering, and grief. What an abundant life means is a life of satisfaction and contentment in Jesus. No matter what season of life we are in or what battles we may be facing, living a life of abundance enables us to truly say “it is well with my soul” and actually mean it. What a gift from the Lord! Imagine walking through the worst, unimaginable thing and being able to sit and say to the Lord that it is well with my soul because, in the end, we know that the Lord is in control and works ALL things together for our good. As followers of Jesus, we can walk through this life with an overflow of peace, joy, zeal, love, forgiveness, kindness and so much more! Lord, remind us of that. Remind us that we are promised a life of abundance in Jesus alone.
