Daily Scripture
“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God. For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake, engaged in the same conflict that you saw I had and now hear that I still have.”
Philippians 1:27-30
daily Devotion
As Christians, we are called to conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel. If you are a child of God, your character (or who you are in Christ) is validated by the way you conduct yourself. Do you profess to know and love God? If so, then that is shown by obeying his commandments and honoring Him in everything that you do. If we proclaim to know that God’s word is divine truth, then we should act in a way that expresses our belief in the word of God.
If we ever expect to win the lost to Jesus, we must be credible. Our biggest influence is our testimony and our testimony must be trustworthy. When Christians live beneath the standards of biblical morality, they compromise the truth concerning character and the will of God. If we do not hold ourselves to the holy standards of God’s word, we cannot expect the lost to embrace what we preach to them.
We preach that the gospel brings change. If the world does not see holiness and purity in our lives as Christians, we lose our credibility. If there is no conviction, there will be no conversion. If there has been no change in someone’s life, then conversion has not taken place. (See 2 Corinthians 5:17). We know that the world does not like God’s standards, but we have credibility when we are faithful to God’s word.
