Daily Scripture
“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Colossians 1:9-14
daily Devotion
Beginning in verse 9, Paul emphasizes the importance of prayer without ceasing, asking the Father for spiritual wisdom and knowledge of His will. This then allows us to walk in a manner that is worthy and pleasing to the Lord. How? By bearing fruit in our every day-to-day works. What does this practically look like? Verse 11 tells us that we can endure and overcome problems with patience and with joy. If we abide in the Father and His words abide in us, we will bear fruit and bring glory to the Father. Continuing on, verses 12-14 really exemplify the grace and goodness of our Father. Here are the promises He makes for His children.
1) We have been qualified to share in the inheritance of the saints.
2) He has delivered us from the domain of darkness.
3) We have redemption and our sins are forgiven.
The Lord is worthy of our thanks. He has made us sinners, who were once worthy of death, and changed our identity to saints, now joined in the same inheritance with Jesus Christ. We have been forgiven, redeemed, and restored! What a love! What a story! What a Father we have the privilege of serving! I hope this encourages each of you that we serve a good Father who has made these promises for each of us. We can walk in that victory and spend the rest of our lives, sharing the good news.
