Daily Scripture
"He burns half of it in a fire, and he roasts meat on that half... he makes a god or his idol with the rest of it."
Isaiah 44:14-20
devotion
Worshiping idols in ancient times was not just about devotion; it was about control. People crafted their gods from the very materials they used to meet their needs—wood for fire, wood for food, and eventually, wood for worship. But in the end, these idols couldn't provide true control. They were hollow, powerless, and deceptive. Today, we still struggle with the illusion of control, trying to shape and manipulate our lives and faith to fit our desires. True worship isn't about controlling the outcome, but surrendering control to the one who has already redeemed us. Worship isn't about what we can manipulate but what we can freely give.
How have you tried to control your life or faith, and how can you shift from striving for control to surrendering to God's will?
"Control is an age-old human problem. We are desperate to be in control, and we’ll give up parts of ourselves for control and security." - Pastor Luke
